Book Character Day! 10-31-14

Book Character Day is one of my favorites at Ben Davis Elementary!  I love seeing all the costumes! I took pictures of many of the costumes. Most of them had a book with them, so I won't list all the titles.  I hope you enjoy looking at these pictures as much as I enjoyed seeing them.

Our principal even got in on the dressing-up! He is one of the Fly Guys. More about that later.

Viola Swamp from Miss Nelson is Missing.

Greg from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid!

Here is a side view in case you want to make one at your house:)

Fern and Charlotte! Check out that spider web spelling!

Some of our second grade teachers as Edward Tulane from The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.

Our fabulous first grade teachers as Fly Guy from different books!

Responsibility and Extras

I pulled out my old Lilly and Her Purple Plastic Purse book character costume and talked to the first graders about responsibility! After I found that purse I knew that I had to  make a Lilly costume!

Here are some more pictures of what students can do in the library during their extra time. Paper, clipboards, glue, pencils, crayons, and markers are all from our writing center.

Puzzles on the puzzle table.

Paper, scissors, and stencil are from the writing center in the library.

The students love to stencil!

Happy Reading!

Hello 2014-2015!

Welcome to the Ben Davis Library 2014-2015.

I added a few new items to the library that area really being enjoyed by all!

The first new thing is our Lego table! I made it this summer and it is a huge hit! The tubs of Lego are stored inside the cabinet. The blue square on the top are building plates. I also got a new rug, solid blue, my dream come true:) No more squabbles over who will sit on the "world" that was in the middle of my old rug. This one is much bigger also.

Lego table in action. You might wonder when do they have time to play with Legos. Well, during the first half of their library time we have our lesson. In the second half they check their books out. After books are checked out they get to do "extras". Lego is one center-type activity that they rotate through.

I love this next picture. We have studied Jacques Cousteau a little this year, and the student said this is Jacques Cousteau's boat:)

Mrs. Propst let her cute twin bed be housed in the library this year! The students are really enjoying their new reading space!

I love this next picture! Only k-2 students could fit on a bed this way!

Happy Reading!
