Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day

Today was Drop Everything And Read Day (DEAR Day)! This is a nationally recognized day. There is even a website www.dropeverythingandread.com.

I got the following information from that website: "You may remember that Beverly Cleary wrote about D.E.A.R. in Ramona Quimby, Age 8. Since then, “Drop Everything and Read” programs have been held nationwide on April 12th in honor of Mrs. Cleary’s birthday. We figured, why not “drop” the “day” and celebrate our beloved author, her timeless stories, and the joy of reading for the full month. So, “drop” by this website all month long in April and anytime you want to make reading a priority!"

Since the 12th was Sunday, we at Ben Davis chose today as our DEAR Day. We also chose to wear our pajamas all day, so we could be comfy while we read! Part of our celebration was to have four guest readers with us today! Enjoy the pictures of our exciting day!
Good morning! Welcome to DEAR Day!

Shopping at the school supply store with their pjs on!

How cute is this!

We had all the pajama extras too - like robes:)

The coolest slippers ever! The ears moved when she walked!
Getting settled for our first reader.

A reader from our Partner in Ed. She is fabulous!
How great to have a bed in the library on the day you wear pajamas (and bring a blanket!)

I love seeing the variety of pajamas!
I think wearing pajamas made this fella sleepy!! By the way, I love seeing our kiddos in this one piece zip-up style:)
I could not resist this picture - that one piece zip-up gets me every time!!
Could there be anything more fun than having a police officer read Officer Buckle and Gloria?

Silly one!!

Another guest reader from our Partner in Ed. We really appreciate you taking off work to come and read to us!

Nothing beat the traditional plaid button up the front set!

Some stuffed animals came to visit today!

 Cute girls!
Cute slippers!
Our fourth reader was our computer technician! Thank you for reading to us!

Easter egg hunt in the library!

Library Easter Egg Hunt
For the last few years one or two of our first grade classes have had their Easter Egg Hunt in the Library! These are pictures from the Friday before Easter. It is tons of fun! The moms come in about a half hour before the hunt and hide the eggs in all the places that the students are normally allowed to go. There are lots of great hiding places in a library! The children don't even run and they don't mess up or tear up anything during the hunt! (Some people asked about that.) Each child is allowed to find 12 eggs. Apparently more than 12 per child are hidden because for a few days after the hunt other students will come in to check out books and find some leftover eggs! My rule is if they find an egg they get to keep it. It is so fun to see their reaction to that news!

Happy Reading!
